Mold

When Disaster Strikes

Devastating stories of families ruined by the effects of toxic molds and the disaster remediation teams that make hope possible again.

Parallax Film Productions profiles families devastated by the effects of Stachybotrys chartarum, commonly known as toxic black mold. In Cincinnati, Ohio, the Hyde’s home is ripped apart by the ravages of this deadly fungus. This Discovery documentary follows a RestorAid Disaster Services crew as they suit up in enviro-tech gear and smash through walls and flooring in an ambitious effort to eradicate these toxic molds.

This disaster documentary details the Hyde’s health: one family member’s tests have shown mold spores living in his blood stream, and he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Another – a child – is also very sick. The show also explores infestation of toxic molds in post-Katrina New Orleans, Louisiana. Experts reveal scientific and medical details about the devastation mold can cause.

Toxic mold can cause allergies and other health problems. Remediation includes testing the toxic mold and developing an attack plan. Removing this vicious pathogen from a property is very detailed and time-intensive.
