When a bomb attack by a Japanese float plane forces an American submarine into an uncontrolled dive and starts a deadly chemical fire, the diving officer and lead electrician must overcome impossible odds or all hands will be lost. While some of the crew battles to regain control of the sub, others fight the toxic fire which threatens their limited air supply.
